Position Description:

POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager

FLSA CATEGORY: Exempt

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief Financial Officer

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Sr. Accounting Associate

DATE OF LAST REVISION: May 2024

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately maintain all applicable accounting records for The Port and its managed entities in accordance with internal accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  2. Prepare and post general ledger entries on a regular basis; monitor accounts for accuracy of posted invoices and journal entries; ensure proper support attached to journal entries.
  3. Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly to identify reconciling items to be resolved.
  4. Manage month end close process in a timely manner to assist CFO with preparing timely financial statements for Board of Directors meetings.
  5. Oversee Sr Accounting Associate in preparation of monthly bank account reconciliations; review monthly for completeness and accuracy and coordinate an outside review by the Public Finance team.
  6. Administer payroll and oversight of third-party payroll provider to ensure accuracy.
  7. Coordinate on-boarding of new hires, including accurate setup for payroll and benefits, and maintain confidential personnel files.
  8. Prepare monthly retirement plan reports for OPERS and ensure timely remittance of contributions.
  9. Maintain capital asset records in a tracking spreadsheet and calculate and record depreciation in accordance with accounting policy.
  10. Assist the auditors with client prepared schedules and other requested items related to the annual audits.
  11. Assist with the annual renewal of employee group health benefits in preparation for open enrollment.
  12. Oversee entire A/P process as managed and performed by Sr Accounting Associate, including review of year end 1099 processing.
  13. Manage A/P authorization and payment processing in Stampli (A/P automation system). Review coding of payables and select invoices to be paid and bank accounts to debit.
  14. Manage Accounts Receivable process for all entities. Review bank activity daily to ensure cash activity is properly recorded in the general ledger system.
  15. Complete special projects as assigned.

Minimum Employment Requirements:

Education and Work Experience

  1. Minimum of 5 years of work experience in accounting. Preferred candidates will have experience with payables and payroll.
  2. Demonstrated success in a supervisory role.
  3. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting is required. CPA preferred, but not required.
  4. Experience with the following is desired: Microsoft Excel, Quick Books Online, internal controls, grant management, and real estate development.
  5. Ability to function at both a management and functional level.
  6. A team player with a strong ability to work well with others – both internally and externally.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Self-motivated and energetic with a strong work ethic and the ability to think creatively.
  10. Highly organized and detail oriented.

Other Prerequisites

  1. Ability to operate all applicable office equipment.
  2. Ability to tour project construction sites and attend out-of-office meetings.
  3. Satisfactory results on pre-employment written and oral testing, as administered by appropriate practitioners at the Port’s direction.
  4. Satisfactory results of background investigations.
  5. Maintain insurability for the operation of motor vehicles if driving to attend out-of-office meetings or otherwise perform job functions.
  6. Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position outlined herein without creating a direct or indirect threat to the safety of oneself or others.

Salary Range:

$70,000-$90,000 per year, based on experience
