The Port Partners with Toys for Tots
This holiday season, we at The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority (The Port) are proud to support U.S. Marine CorU.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots campaign by lending one of our properties in to the organization rent-free. The building, located directly west of the historic Crosley Building in Camp Washington, has become the central hub for toy collection and distribution, helping to bring joy to thousands of children across the region.
Toys for Tots has been spreading holiday cheer since 1947. The initiative collects new, unwrapped toys to distribute to children in need, ensuring that every child experiences the magic of the holidays. This year, the local Toys for Tots campaign is supporting over 35,000 kids across six counties in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, with a goal of distributing 70,000 toys—two per child. Volunteers spend countless hours sorting the toys by gender and age to make sure every child receives a gift that feels personal and thoughtful.
The centralized location of our Camp Washington property has played a key role in supporting this massive operation. Staff Sergeant Roberts shared that the “centralized location is incredibly helpful because most of the organizations we are donating toys to are in central Cincinnati, with a few in Northern Kentucky."
We’ve also been thrilled to work alongside local partners like Dave Chandler from radio station B105, who has been a driving force in collecting toys for the campaign. “This is by far the best central location we’ve had because it has been the easiest to get to and unload and then go out and pick up more,” said Chandler.
This is a wonderful location. We've been doing it for 10 years and every year it seems like the warehouse is in a different spot, and usually it's not convenient for us when we are driving around in our personal vehicles.”
Our team at The Port has also been hands-on in assisting with sorting toys alongside the Marines. Chandler shared, “Folks like you, the wonderful people at The Port, sort them and help the Marines sort them.”
The collaboration between The Port, Toys for Tots, and community partners underscores the power of coming together to make a difference. By providing this space, we are proud to help ensure that children across our region experience the joy of the holiday season.
