Public Policy Veteran to Lead The Port’s Civic Engagement Efforts

Cincinnati, OH, December 8, 2021 – The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority (The Port) announced today the hiring of Rahiel Michael to the newly-created position of vice president of civic engagement. In this new role, Ms. Michael will be responsible for connecting The Port’s work with the needs and visions of neighborhoods and local governments.
Ms. Michael joins The Port having served in Mayor Cranley’s administration since 2017 as its director of legislative affairs, deputy chief of staff, and most recently chief of staff.
“We’re delighted to welcome Rahiel and her rich experience in local politics and communities to The Port,” said Laura N. Brunner, President and CEO of The Port. “It’s critical for us to fully understand the needs and concerns of the City, County, and local neighborhoods. In this new role, Rahiel will ensure The Port provides the highest level of impact and interactions with citizens and elected officials throughout Hamilton County to be certain all needs and ideas are heard,” Brunner continued.
As vice president of civic engagement, Ms. Michael will act as liaison for The Port to the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, and state and federal agencies. She will also serve as a vital connection between The Port and neighborhood residents.
“Contributing to the development and vibrancy of our community through my work at the city has been an honor,” said Michael. “I am thrilled to further this mission at The Port and support the continued growth of our region. I look forward to using my skills and experience to improve civic engagement and make development more equitable.” Michael added.
Prior to joining Mayor Cranley’s administration, Ms. Michael worked for United States Senator Sherrod Brown as the Senator’s constituent services advocate. Before that, Michael worked in corporate affairs at The Kroger Company.
Ms. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in Arts, Philosophy, Politics and the Public from Xavier University, where she also earned a master’s degree in Private Interests and Public Good.
Ms. Michael will begin her work at The Port on January 10, 2022.
